Beefcake/Cheesecake of the Week of March 26, 2014

Once again, we will be touring the latest comics from Marvel, DC and a few of the indie presses for fine servings of Beefcake and Cheesecake. The lack of quantity of beefcake and cheesecake this week is more than made up for it by the quality of this week's serving.  There were certainly some prime choice selections out there.  Warning: Do not go any further if you are sexually repressed, puritanical or believe in censoring what other people view and read. For all the rest of you deviants, go on and check out what we have for this wee...

Beefcake/Cheesecake of the Week of March 19, 2014

Yes, I know, it has been a long time since The Revolution rolled out one of our patented Beefcake/Cheesecake of the Week columns.  Honestly, I had stopped doing them because, despite what a certain comic book rumormonger with Victorian Era sensablities from a certain Bleeding comic website thinks, the fact is that Cheesecake is pretty much a dying art.  You really just do not see that much of it in mainstream comic books anymore.  Beefcake?  Well, despite what the other wesbite iwth CBR as its intials thinks with their male ...

A Year Without Spider-Man

A Year Without Spider-Man

As much as I love Batman, Daredevil, Iron Man and the X-Men, the comic book character that has been my favorite since I discovered the comic book medium 20 years ago has been Spider-Man. To me, Spider-Man and Peter Parker, specifically, has been the most interesting character to read on a monthly basis. That was until 2013 when the Marvel launched the Superior Spider-Man. Now in 2014 I find myself having done something I never thought I would have done: I have gone over a year without having read a new comic book starring Spider-Man.

Guardians of the Galaxy #13 Spoiler Review (The Trial of Jean Grey)

The All-New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy crossover known as “The Trial of Jean Grey” has reached its final issue. This has been a crossover that had a slow start in its first two chapters but has been picking up steam with each subsequent chapter. A lot of the credit goes to how Brian Bendis has written the dynamic between the X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy and returning Starjammers. Their dynamic has added tension to the situation between Jean Grey and the Shi’ar Empire. Now it’s time to see how it all ends with Guardians of the Galaxy #1...

X-Men #12 Review

One of the problems that X-Men has been dealing with is that being good is not enough. Just settling for being good in the current X-Men market makes the series look nothing more than average. The comic book market currently has so many great X-Men titles on the stands that each X-Men title needs to have its own hook and use it to be more than just good. Brian Wood needs to begin to find a way to make X-Men stand out beyond it having a cast that stars the superheroines of the X-Men. Maybe X-Men #12 will be just that issue that will separate it ...

Daredevil #1 Review (All-New Marvel NOW!)

Daredevil was revitalized by Mark Waid and transformed into one of the strongest comics that Marvel was publishing on a monthly basis. Therefore, I was obviously disappointed when I first heard that Waid’s run on Daredevil was coming to an end. Thankfully, Waid’s run on the character is not over as Marvel announced that Waid would be back to write the All-New Marvel Now! relaunch of Daredevil. This is good because Waid left Matt Murdock in a position where I wanted to see what Waid has in store for the character in a new setting. Now we will ge...

Nightwing #29 Review

Since the New 52 began one of DC's most consistently well written comic has been Nightwing. Under Kyle Higgins' pen Nightwing has been able to move on from just being another Batman title into a series that stands on its own. But now, after more than two years on the series, Higgins' run on this series has come to an end. Nightwing #29 marks the final issue of Higgins' tenure and with all that has happened I have high hopes for this ending that also acts as a lead into Forever Evil. Find out if Higgins ends things with a bang with this review o...

Moon Knight #1 Review

When it comes to Moon Knight I’ve always likde the character’s concept and costume design but I’ve never been a big fan of the character. The only Moon Knight comic book that I have enjoyed has been Charlie Huston run back in 2006. Now with a new Moon Knight series being launched as part of the All-New Marvel NOW! I’ve decided to give the character another shot. One reason for this is that I’ve been enjoying most of the All-New Marvel NOW! titles thus far. The other reason for picking up Moon Knight #1 is Warren Ellis, who I’ve always been a fa...

Forever Evil #6 Review

Forever Evil has had its fair share of moments but so far it has been able to find the one thing that brings all these moments together for an unforgettable reading experience. Now that we are at issue #6 I honestly do not know where I will end up falling when this event is over. On one hand, I have enjoyed the character development Geoff Johns has been done with the Crime Syndicate and Lex Luthor. On the other hand, the lack of heroes outside of Batman in the story has left a giant void in the story. With only two issues left I am hoping that ...
