Time for the weekly dose of Comic Book Highlights. This was another great week that delivered some very cool Highlights. Out of the pack this week's highlights Thanos Imperative #2 stood tall and deliver the biggest and best highlights this week. Outside of Thanos Imperative we also had some Super-Dickery from Superman, Phoenix returns (?), a look at Spider-Man's possible future, Penguin having an "interesting" dream, and much more. Hit the jump button to check out all of this week's Comic Book Highlights.
COVER OF THE WEEK: GORILLA MAN #1 BY LEONARD KIRK
No contest as Gorilla Man is styling and profiling in this cover as he is surrounded by beautiful women. Gorilla Man rules as I'm sure this comic did as well. Very eye catching cover for a comic that looks like it was a lot of fun.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #637
Looks like the Spider(-Man) is now hunting the Hunters.
A look into Spider-Man's future. It looks like Marvel is referencing JMS run much more now as the costume that Spider-Man is wearing that looks like a jacket looks very similar to a future Spider-Man costume from Amazing Spider-Man #499.
Madame Web passes on her powers to Julia Carpenter and Julia passes on her costume to Arana who looks like is the new Spider-Girl from the rumors.
AVENGERS ACADEMY #2
Looks like someone is very interested in Quicksilver's history. Wonder if it mentions him having a crazy sister.
BATMAN #701
Bruce knows how to survive. Not even a helicopter crash can kill him.
Bruce knows how to ride in style for his last mission before his death.
BIRDS OF PREY #3
Penguin sure knows how to have good dreams and Penguin continues to be the only good thing about Birds of Prey even though I like most of the characters on this title.
BOOSTER GOLD #34
As I always say, everything is better when we get some dragons in comics.
DAREDEVIL #508
Finally Elektra re-appears! Now things should get even more interesting. Can't wait to see what she does. Will she side with Matt? Will she fight Matt? Or something else? Can't wait to find out.
GIRL COMICS #3
Looks like Wolverine finally got his own Wolverinemobile.
INVICIBLE IRON MAN #28
Tony just figured out the best way to not make a one-night stand awkward: erase it from your mind.
SUPERMAN #701
Instead of almost giving a dude a heartattack why not just lift up a truck or just fly around to show you still have your powers. Or better yet go pick up a pizza from New York City and return in 30 seconds. Remember if its not there in 30 seconds it means Superman doesn't have his powers.
Come on Superman the kid was just asking you a simple question. And of course you didn't answer the kid's question giving you yet another Super-Dickery moment in an issue that was filled with these type of dumb moments.
THANOS IMPERATIVE #2
Again Brandon would have put me on a shuttle that was on a one way stop to the sun if I didn't include at least one Silver Surfer moment that happened in Thanos Imperative. Are you happy Brandon? ;)
Silver Surfer brought his friends along to help save the universe. And next time on "Silver Surfer and His Amazing Friends" they will eradicate Twilight from existences.
Gamora I love you so much. You are just so awesome.
Cancerverse Hulk just got pwned by Cosmo. Your a good boy Cosmo.
This is called Thanos Imperative afterall he had to get his moment to shine by killing the Cancerverse Defenders. What you going to do Cancerverse when Thanos comes after you.
No Marvel Cosmic Event is complete without some Rocket Raccoon awesomeness.
Things just went from bad to worse for the 616-Universe which means good things for us.
X-MEN: SECOND COMING #2
Great speech by Hope. This was my favorite scene in the whole issue. Good to see Scott finally showing some emotions after all that has happened and that Hope stepped up and gave a great speech about Cable.
There are two things wrong with this image: 1) Greg Land's "art" and 2) Deadpool. Somehow Marvel was able too combine their worst "artist" and most overrated character in one image. Thanks for turning me off to even considering to picking up Uncanny X-Force.
Looks like the Phoenix is back. That's not good news for Emma.
Looks like Scott was right all along. Suck it Storm and Beast. *DX X chop*

Bad as Land's art is (Seriously why is Psylocke holding a gun?) I gotta admit seeing the team actually has me interested in the new X-force series. Its still a stupid pointless reboot with nothing to it other then Marvel trying to suck more money out of my wallet, but its got a good creative team behind it and I like the team. Yes, even with Deadpool.
We all knew Deadpool was going to end up on a team book, it was just a matter of what? X-men? Of course not. Avengers? No way. New Avengers? Maybe. Secret Avengers? Much more possible but he's not the kind of character I can see Brubaker writing well. When it comes down to it, X-force is a perfect place for Deadpool. I think he'll work well here and on a team book he can't afford to soak up the lime light because a good team book shows, you know, the whole team!
I am really glad X-23 isn't on this team, I think she needs a break from senseless killing.
Overall I must say if I can afford it, I may pick up Uncanny X-force now.
How on earth is Vision evil in the cancerverse? He's an android! I know he can be good or evil, has feelings, but I don't like seeing my boy Vision get dissed like that.
No Doom the Living Planet, or the startling kiss heard around New York from Ultimate Spider-man #12, Kevin? I'm sorely disapointed in you. I don't care if you couldn't find scans of them, scan them yourself or ask me to scan them for you! Doom the living planet demands more fan-love!
As for Spider-Man and his Grim Hunt, I loved it until the moment of the kill. That alternate future with the New Avengers turning Spidey down after he killed Kraven turned me off. I mean, who is frikkin WOLVERINE to judge Spidey for killing a villain? Bucky-Cap has also killed a crapload of people, and not even Iron Man is averse to killing a villain when he has to. I wanted Peter to do for once the (wrong?) thing. I think it would have made things more interesting for Spider-Man.
Thanos Imperative #2.
It should have been Mike Choi for that segment since he has done a few arcs in X-Force and he kicked ass throughout this crossover. Hate Land's art and made me not want to pick up Uncanny X-Force. Maybe I'll check it out on trade.
X-23 is actually getting her own ongoing that actually sounds interesting as she is going to be going out on her own and won't be part of the X-Men.
The reason Vision is there was shown in Realm of Kings #1 as he is the only hero in the Cancerverse not affected by the virus or something that turned every single living being in the universe into monsters or evil version of themselves. From the looks of it I would say that Vision may actually play a big role in the next issue as he is the sole hero in the Cancerverse and will be helping the Guardians of the Galaxy save the 616 universe. Its good long-term planning by DnA actually.
I agree that was my only big gripe about ASM #637. It should have actually been Steve Rogers not Wolverine that was shown kicking Peter out of the Avengers. It would have made more sense due to Steve's image.
